Job Summary

As a key member of our Game Entertainment team, the Engineer In Charge (EIC) will be responsible for the day to day performance, maintenance, and readiness of our Arena-wide multi-media and broadcast systems that power unforgettable live experiences at PPG Paints Arena.  This role is critical to ensuring seamless broadcast, in-venue production, and digital content execution on game days and beyond.  Ideal candidates will be technically skilled and solutions-driven with hands-on engineering experience across in-arena and broadcast assets in a live event and/or arena environment and demonstrate both technical proficiency and creative collaboration.  This role will also lead installation, maintenance, and innovation of evolving arena-wide production technology. 

 Key Responsibilities

  • EIC presence at all Penguins games and signature Arena events, and others as assigned
  • Maintain, troubleshoot, and optimize all game entertainment technologies and systems in the control room and throughout the arena.
  • Perform installations, upgrades, and testing of A/V and control room infrastructure, ensuring system reliability and performance.
  • Ensure all production systems are preset and operational well before crew arrival on event days.
  • Oversee monitoring and upkeep of arena-wide systems, including:
                - Media Level and Game Night Operating Systems
                - Broadcast headend and distribution panels
                - Media Room and supporting content systems
  • Diagnose, repair, and bench test broadcast and entertainment equipment, with clear documentation.
  • Proactively design and propose system upgrades and future-forward integrations, including budgetary estimates and ROI assessments.
  • Collaborate with Game Entertainment staff to support new ideas and tech-driven fan engagement initiatives.
  • Stay current on industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies to drive innovation.
  • Provide leadership, mentorship, and hands-on support across technical crews and event operations.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned, especially during high-volume game and event periods.
  • Serve as the engineering point of contact for all event production and broadcast groups.
 
Qualifications & Experience
Preferred Education/Certifications:
  • Degree in Broadcast Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent technical training
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., SMPTE, CTS, A+, Dante, etc.) 

Professional Experience:
  • 3–5 years in a broadcast or live event production environment, preferably within sports or arena settings
  • Proven expertise in installing, maintaining, and operating video, audio, LED, RF, and control systems
  • Familiarity with common broadcast technologies such as routers, switchers, intercoms, servers, signal distribution systems, and Dante/AES67 audio networks
  • Experience with the following (or equivalent systems) is a plus:
           - Mitsubishi Display Systems
           - ANC LED and control systems
           - Evertz systems, including routers, replay systems and monitoring tools
           - Ross Video equipment (switchers, graphics engines)
            - Clear-Com/Reidel intercom platforms
