Opportunity: 
The Arizona Major Events Host Committee (AMEHC) is responsible for planning and executing major and impactful events for Arizona.  The AMEHC resume includes events like the NFL Super Bowl in 2023, the NCAA Men’s Basketball Final Four in 2024, and the upcoming 2026 NCAA Women’s Basketball Final Four. The guiding principles of the AMEHC create a framework for achieving success and maximizing the positive impacts on Arizona communities:

The AMEHC works in partnership with local and national stakeholders to create an outstanding and positive experience for event attendees, Arizona residents, local businesses, the hospitality community, media, visitors to Arizona, local and national sponsors, as well as participating teams, players/participants and team personnel.  We are seeking individuals who are committed to pursuing excellence and being part of creating memorable experiences and philanthropic and economic impact.
 
Role:
The Communications Manager will play a key role in building and protecting the Arizona Major Events Host Committee’s public image, leading public relations efforts for the 2026 Women’s Final Four, and supporting broader branding and marketing initiatives. This role will be primarily PR-focused but will also provide general marketing support across events, activations, and internal initiatives.

Responsibilities:
Women’s Final Four PR & Media Support
o   Develop and execute proactive public relations plans focused on generating earned media coverage for the 2026 NCAA Women’s Final Four ancillary events, in partnership with the NCAA and internal stakeholders.
o   Take ownership of media outreach — including identifying targets, building media lists, pitching stories, securing coverage, and coordinating interviews across local, regional, and national outlets.
o   Draft, edit, and distribute press materials such as press releases, media advisories, talking points, and briefing documents to support coverage and event awareness.
o   Serve as the day-to-day media contact for Women’s Final Four ancillary events and manage all incoming media inquiries.
o   Provide onsite media relations support during key events, including press conferences, fan activations, and community programs.
o   Cultivate and maintain strong working relationships with journalists, editors, producers, and influencers; collaborate with NCAA media relations as needed for national coverage alignment.

Marketing & Internal Communications
o   Develop and maintain website content for both Women’s Final Four ancillary events and broader AMEHC initiatives.
o   Coordinate internal communications including team updates, stakeholder messaging, and event calendars.
o   Draft talking points and executive messaging for the CEO and other staff participating in panels, interviews, or public appearances.
o   Lead development of the monthly newsletter, with a primary focus on promoting Women’s Final Four events and milestones.
o   Support the creation of sponsorship and marketing materials for both the Women’s Final Four and AMEHC, ensuring alignment with brand guidelines and messaging priorities.
o   Assist in preparing award submissions and organizational spotlights that highlight community impact.

Reporting & Evaluation
o   Track media placements, impressions, and earned media value and create regular reports.
o   Produce a comprehensive post-event PR report by April 30, 2026, summarizing reach, outcomes, and lessons learned.


Qualifications/Competencies:
  • Preferred Experience: A minimum of 3-5 years of progressively responsible experience in public relations or communications.
  • Proven ability to develop and implement PR strategies, including media outreach, press material development, and onsite media coordination.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills, with experience producing content across multiple formats and channels.
  • Strong relationship-building skills and the ability to interface effectively with media, partners, stakeholders, and leadership.
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented, with demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects, deadlines, and cross-functional teams simultaneously.
  • Comfort operating in fast-paced, high-stakes environments with evolving priorities and tight timelines.
  • Familiarity with Arizona’s tourism, hospitality, sports, or events ecosystem strongly preferred..
  • Due to the fast paced, dynamic work environment, this role is onsite in downtown Phoenix, and may require attendance at occasional evening and weekend events. 
  • Team player and positive mojo – ability to work well with all internal and external stakeholders.
