This is not a ceremonial role—it is an active, working position designed for a change agent ready to make a meaningful impact on the growth and governance of rugby in the United States. Building on the success of our Women’s 7s team winning the bronze medal at the Paris Olympics, the organization is preparing to welcome the world to the three biggest showcases for rugby:
· The 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles
· The Men’s Rugby World Cup in 2031
· The Women’s Rugby World Cup in 2033

Director Profile – At-Large Director Term Length: 4 years
The USA Rugby Football Union (USA Rugby) is seeking vibrant and energetic applicants to fill one At-Large Director position on its Board of Directors.
USA Rugby is the National Governing Body (NGB) of Rugby in the United States operating as a member of both World Rugby and the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee (USOPC). The Board of Directors oversees USA Rugby subject to the organization’s Bylaws, its Certificate of Incorporation, the Ted Stevens Act, and World Rugby and USOPC regulations. The Board of Directors administers, manages, preserves, and protects the property of the Corporation through its oversight of policymaking and executive management of USA Rugby.
Individual At-Large Directors may have high level expertise in areas such as marketing, development, non-profit operations, finance, law, human resources, sports business, government affairs, or international rugby management.
Essential Role of Board Members:
1. Promote and develop interest and participation in the game of Rugby throughout the United States.
2. Model Rugby’s core values of integrity, passion, solidarity, discipline, and respect for the game.
3. Approve and monitor the implementation of a strategic plan as well as annual business and operational plans and budgets.
4. Develop and implement appropriate policies necessary for effective and efficient governance and management.
5. Review and revise corporate governance policies and practices, as necessary, to
ensure adherence to ethically high standards of organization behavior.
6. Ensure the preservation of the assets of USA Rugby to ensure the long-term sustainability of the organization and the availability of its resources.
7. Oversee the raising of funds and other resources for the use and benefit of the Corporation.
8. Appoint and oversee the activities of the Corporation’s various committees and advisory groups.
9. Set policy to determine Corporation membership and set all membership dues and fees.
Qualifications for the Current Open At-Large Director Position:
The successful candidate for the current open At-Large Director position will have some or all of the following qualifications:
1. Executive-level experience in marketing and communications. This may include development and execution of marketing strategies and related communications plans, as well as brand development.
2. Executive-level experience developing and implementing sustainable strategies to increase revenue including negotiating opportunities with sponsors, broadcast partners, suppliers, and vendors.
3. Experience using media and technology to broaden the reach of the organization’s content and messages to a wider audience. This includes using technology to effectively attract and communicate with current and prospective players, fans, and supporters.
4. Senior management experience in consumer goods, sports, or related organizations.
5. Board-level experience in other for-profit or not-for-profit organizations.
6. A connection to rugby through a history as a player, coach, referee, administrator, supporter, or fan.
7. Other senior management experience which the Board finds complements its existing members.
The successful candidate must be or become a member of USA Rugby, pass a background check, complete Safe Sport training, and adhere to the USA Rugby Conflict of Interest Policy and other policies’
